It is frequently used to assess the density and size of organs, identify areas of fluid accumulation, and detect abnormalities such as air or fluid-filled spaces. For example, in chest percussion, dullness may signify areas of consolidation or fluid accumulation, while resonance is characteristic of normal lung tissue.

Both auscultation and percussion necessitate proper technique and interpretation by trained healthcare professionals to furnish valuable diagnostic insights into a patient's health status.
